We don't know who you are.
Really. We never even asked for your email address.
Promise.me has no accounts, profiles, passwords or contact lists. For private promises, we don't ask who you are or who you're making a promise to.
When you make a promise, we turn your words into a link.
You send that link — not us.
Text it. Email it. Drop it in a group chat. How you share your promise and who you share it with is up to you.
When someone opens the link, their browser reads the promise from the link and displays it.
We don't keep a database of your private promises. If you explicitly submit an entry to the public Book of Promises, we store that entry for review and publication.
What do we know?
Like most websites, Promise.me uses third-party services for things like hosting, analytics and advertising. Those services may collect ordinary technical information about visits to the site according to their own privacy policies.
We may use anonymous information about how Promise.me is used — things like whether someone visited the site, opened a shared promise or created one of their own.
But we don't send the words in your private promise to analytics.
Private sharing does not ask for your name, email address or contact list. Public book entries may include the optional To and Location text you choose to provide.
We built it that way on purpose.
Want to shout it from the rooftops?
You may have the option to make a promise public.
This is always your choice, and it's off by default.
If you choose Add to the Book of Promises and confirm submission, we send the message, its sentiment, and any optional To and Location text to our Cloudflare-hosted service. We store them with system-generated dates. Entries stay private while awaiting review; only approved entries appear in the public book. Rejected or removed entries have their message and optional fields erased. We use a spam check and temporary request limits to protect submissions.
Public means public. Other people may be able to read, comment on, share, copy or save what you wrote.
Once something is out on the internet, we can't promise it'll disappear.
One more thing
Anyone who has your private promise link can read the promise.
So don't put passwords, financial information, private personal information, secrets or anything else in a promise that you wouldn't want someone with the link to see.
Your promise is between you and them.
Promise.me just gives your words a nice place to land.
